Special Guest - Spencer Tombari, Cold Calling Goat 🐐

This week we thought we would outsource our information and interview the cold-calling GOAT - Spencer Tombari (SDR @ Deel). He served some great tangible takeaways for us that we can all use during our next cold calling block.

First off, where did Spencer develop his cold-calling skill

Spencer started his career in commercial real estate scraping for dollars with a 100% commission rate (perspective lol)
 He said that the pressure was on because his livelihood was basically dependent on making effective cold calls or else he wouldn’t afford food or rent. (More perspective!) He believes, like the rest of us, that no one was born a good cold caller but rather time & practice turns you into one. Ultimately, strengthening confidence, trying new scripts, and new methods has increased his skills, connects, and conversion rates.

{Spencer’s Hot Takes on Cold Calling Tips}

  1. For connect rates: Play around with alternate phone numbers from hot zones like SF, NY, or LA or other areas to eliminate the risk of them showing up as spam. Also, time of the day matters! Early morning dials for EST. Spencer gets up every morning smiling and dialing at the early hours of 6 AM PST. He ends his day dialing PST folks after hours between 4:30 and 5:30. That’s what we like to call intentional dialing!

  2. For conversion rates: Make sure the the people actually want to show up to the demo and you are booking a quality account. When sending over the invite, add the relevant topic into the invite name. Prior to the demo, follow up with value adds. If they don’t show up, give them a call and send them an email!

  3. For overall mentality: Spencer’s attitude comes from the fact that the only things he can control is himself. By starting every morning with cold calling, he channels his day & energy on the right foot giving him motivation to make the calls and work towards the $$$.

Spencer also provide us with some driving factors that have allowed him to progress in his career. It would be a disservice to not include.....

“I am an obsessive goal maker and am always competitive with myself. Thus, I always have to channel my focus towards something. I basically don’t have a limit to what I can succeed and I want to see how to break the next barrier of potential.”

Lessons Learned from Spencer:

  1. Never give up.

  2. Confidence is a muscle, you need to work it out.

  3. You CAN do anything.
